| O'Neil's Sustainability Statement |
| RELEASE DATE: 01/28/2008 |
O’Neil’s Sustainability Program touches almost every aspect of the business. O’Neil Printing, Arizona’s only employee owned commercial printer, became FSC certified to help protect the environment. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) promotes forest management that ensures sustainability, wildlife and stream preservation, biodiversity and legal logging practices. Paper is a very visible and identifiable arena where companies can demonstrate their commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Environmental organizations, paper buyers and consumers alike worked together to create this FSC Chain of Custody certification. Rather than just focusing on recycling, where harmful chemicals and the origin of pulp is unaccounted for, this FSC Chain of Custody tracks wood fiber from its original point of harvest, all the way to the end consumer who ordered the printing and finishing of the paper. This certification establishes a credible system whereby the end client can be assured that the paper used on their project is linked directly back to the practice of sustainable forestry. Over the years, O’Neil Printing has developed our own internal Sustainability Program. This program has focused on recycling excess production materials including paper, aluminum printing plates and corrugated cartons, as well as properly treating and reusing the chemicals used in our printing process. There is a growing movement to exclude organic solvents from commercial products, and printing inks are no exception. To that end, O’Neil Printing has partnered with industry leader Toyo Ink to utilize Toyo’s HyPlus 100 Process Series ink. This ink allows us to use formulations for all four basic printing colors that are entirely free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) while delivering excellent printed results. Our sustainability program extends into our office and production areas where we have installed low voltage florescent lamps allowing for lower energy consumption. We have placed collection stations throughout our facilities for the recycling of paper, aluminum cans and plastic bottles. O’Neil’s employees are encouraged to use alternative “blue air” methods for their commute to work. Over 20% of our work force commutes to O’Neil via carpool, rideshare, public transportation, alternative fuel/hybrid vehicles or bicycle. Each month we have a $50.00 drawing of a gift card and a preferred parking spot for employees who participate in this initiative. Additionally, many deliveries to local clients are facilitated through the use of a “clean emissions” Natural Gas fueled Honda Civic. We continue to seek out alternative printing materials, methods and processes as an ongoing commitment to O’Neil Printing’s Sustainability initiative. |
