Mr. Cato making a scene

Phoenix, AZ – When O’Neil Printing started offering Stoccato 20 micron stochastic screening, they looked to Rule29 to help develop a unique promotional piece to display the abilities of this new process. After brief interviews the team came up with the character of Mr. Cato to tell their story. Rule29 saw Mr. Cato, which comes from the last four letters of Staccato, as a way to help O’Neil’s clients stand out by finding their individual ‘it’.

To illuminate the unique journey of Mr. Cato, Rule29 (www.rule29.com) put together an amazing team of collaborators; MacDonald Photography (www.macpix.com), who traveled the country with Rule29 taking images that really brought Cato to life, Terry Marks (www.tmarksdesign.com), who helped create an amazing narrative of how Mr. Cato finds his “it”, and Rule29 as the creative lead and design team. Also, since Mr. Cato is a musician in the story, the team looked to iv Group (www.ivgroup.cc) to create Cato’s groovy tunes and Neenah Paper’s (www.neenahpaper.com) new Eames Paper Collection as the media to display the journey.

Through Mr. Cato, Rule29 was able to tell this memorable story and exhibit the amazing abilities of O’Neil and their new offerings, as well as the abilities of each team collaborator. The wonderful story shows how Mr. Cato found his it, but also how O’Neil Printing has found their own ‘it’ and how they can help others express themselves and find their ‘it’. The whole process of creating Mr. Cato proved to be a great journey for all of its members.

Since his debut, Mr. Cato has won several recognitions in major graphic design magazines, including Communication Arts, GD USA, HOW and Create magazines.
